Bully

I thought Huckabee's concession speech was very good.. It had all the elements of a uniting speech..I won't talk politics, I promise, but I just thought I'd say a word about that. It was a busy day at work. It snowed just a little. Of course, It didn't stick, because the ground is not cold enough.

My daughter had a little bit of drama last night and this morning. Last night, she was crying in her room( She is 11, but looks about 15).I asked her what was wrong. She said that there are some kids in her class making fun of another little girl, calling her horrible names, and when Kristen took up for the little girl, they started calling Kristen names..I told her to please just ignore bullies and let me know if it gets worse..I told her I would call the school, if there was bullying going on..Then this morning, when I went in her room, to see if she was ready for school, she was crying, saying she wanted to stay home. She was afraid of the kids calling her names. I told her that we don't stay home because of bullys. If we did that, we would be letting them push us around, and we were not going to do that....
Well, the bus got stuck in the mud this morning, so I took the kids to school..
All morning long, it bothered me.I couldn't stand the thought of some bullys calling a little girl names, and me knowing about it and not saying anything. I called the principal of the school. She goes to my church and is a wonderful person. I told her that I didn't want to cause any problems, but I wanted her to know that some children had been making fun of and calling the little girl names.. The principal thanked me for calling, because the little girl had just left, going home "sick" for the second day in a row..The principal said she asked the little girl what was wrong, or could it be something else besides being sick, but the little girl just hung her head and said "no maam". The principal is going to have a talk with the girls of the 5th and 6th grade. My daughter has told me about the principals talks. If anyone can get through to the children, I believe that she can. I prayed about this all morning, and now I really know I did the right thing.. Please keep this little girl and my daughter in your prayers.. This is a BIG DEAL to their little hearts..

Well, I'll close my post for now. I hope all of you have a wonderful rest of the evening.. Bunches of hugs...

The sad thing is that nowadays bullying is taken to a whole new level. I think you definitely did the right thing by calling the school b/c it could lead to bad things happening no matter how young they are! I'm sending good thoughts and prayers your way. Your daughter is obviously a good girl and she's had a good raising (as we say in the south) and I'm proud of her for stepping up for the little girl who was getting made fun of and sacrificing herself. Way to go! :)

I’m so glad you made that phone. Being called names and bullied can be so destructive to kids.

I'm sorry this happened to these girls. It can be so disheartening to them. We've been there with our two oldest, and it's very hard for them to see past this age and know that it won't always be this way for them. Our youngest is facing this right now, but a little differently as she is homeschooled. She's fairly new to the youth group at church, and it's hard for her to find her "place" in the heirarchy of 6th-7th grade girls. I will pray ~ for your daughter who has a heart of gold for taking up for the other girl, her friend, and for the principal as she talks to these girls.

Good Morning Stephanie,
We got a bit of Snow here yesterday morning as well. It wasn't even a dusting, but it did stick to a few things on the outside. It wasn't big snowflakes, just small snowflakes. It didn't last very long either. Today is to be warmer and then another round of Wintry Mix is in store for Friday. I'm sorry about the bullying at School. I've had this happen to our girls before at School. They would call our girls names. I called the School and talked to the Principal as well. I told her I wasn't trying to start anything and that something just needs to be done about it. She was real nice and the girls told me the day afterwards that things had gotten better. You have raised your daughter to be a great and caring person. I have always told our girls to treat everyone nice no matter how they treat them. Some kids these days just don't have any kind of respect in them at all. And it all has to do with what kind of raising they are getting at home. Last Wednesday night when our girls got in from Church, our oldest daughter told me that some boy that was there called her a B**** right there in Church. That made me so mad. I am going to talk to my SIL about it before tonight and let her know because she is one of the Wednesday night teachers for the kids. The boy that called her that stays in trouble alot in School as well. You did the right thing in calling the School and letting the Principal know about it. I know our girls don't like to tell the Principal things because they are afraid of being called a snitch. I will keep your daughter and her friend she stood up for in my prayers. Take care my friend and have a great day. May God Bless You and Yours.

Love & Hugs,
Karen H.

You most certainly did the right thing! I have had the same thing happen to my daughter when she was in middle school. I was waiting in the car to pick her up after school one day and I waited and waited, and finally got out to go see what was taking so long, and about that time out came my daughter hobbling to the car. A mean girl had tied her shoe laces together! So tight she couldnt get them undone. I was so mad, I took the shoes off and went straight to the principals office. But out principal at the time wasnt a very good one, he didnt handle the situation right at all. Your daughter has a very caring, loving heart. How proud you must be of her!! I'll keep both girls in my prayers!

Oh, yes...we've all had to go thru this with our sons and daughters, both. I always just hated it because, as you well know, it hurts us moms more than it hurts the kids. And...it hurts them plenty!
Glad you are having a good turnout for your giveaway. I posted about it on my sidebar and will leave it there until after your drawing. I am still keeping my fingers crossed for that fabulous basket full of goodies!
hugs, bj

Your daughter should hold her head up high for taking up for that other little girl. And you should too for going to the principal. I hope someone can get through to the bullies that this is a terrible thing to do to other kids and that they should be ashamed of themselves.

Bullying is such an ugly thing and it is a very big deal to the kids (as it should be). It's tough to deal with sometimes too. I wish the girls the best.

It is such a sad thing that bullying like that has to happen. I remember how nasty girls of that age can be from when my children were in school. It can really hurt those tender egos at that age. I pray that they will have the strength to realize the damage that they create.

Stephanie ~ It is just terrible how kids treat each other sometimes. But I must say that I admire your daughter's maturity in sticking up for her friend against the bully. Bullies are usually bullies because they don't feel good about themselves and want others to be the subject of ridicule so it won't be focused at them. I always either used a quick fist or a quicker wit when faced with those situations, but I don't think I would give either of them that advice though. PRAYER NEVER HURTS! ~ jb///

Hi Stephanie,

You did the right thing by calling the school. It should be nipped in the bud before it escalates. Your daughter has a kind heart to care about the girl. I'll keep her and the other little girl in my prayers.

Take care!

Hugs,

Renie

Stephanie,

I think you did the right thing by calling the school. The thing about bullying is that most of the time a bully's behavior is not corrected while the child is young and by the time the child reaches middle/high school, it is out of control.

Many people will say that it is best to allow children to work out their own problems, that all children will have disagreements and arguments with other children at some point; that this is one way in which they learn how to deal with other people and develop social skills.

I believe that this is true to a certain extent. But there is a distinct difference between disagreements/arguments and plain out bullying and disrespect.

I've always told my children to never be ashamed of their friends or be afraid to stand up for them if the need arises. Anyone who would make fun of them and start bullying them too are not to be considered friends anymore.

Girls being mean to each other seems to be a fad now, teens are even videoing fights and putting them on line (a criminal offense btw). I agree with working mom that bullying is at a new level - for some we are talking knives, guns, gangs.

By the time my youngest son started high school, it had gotten very bad there. After a 'bully' event, that included a gun getting pulled out on him by a carload of boys, I immediately put him in martial arts. It had an instant effect - he was bullied no more. Today, no one bullies him.

Bullies will attack emotionally as well as physically - they only prey on the sweet, the weak and/or those who will not defend themselves in anyway.

While I think physical self defense is important, I also think a person has to be strong mentally. This can only be accomplished through strong support and teachings of good morals by good parents and good teachers. And good true friends.

:)
