The Great BackYard Bird Count !

February 15-18, 2008

Go to The Great Backyard Bird Count and see what you need to do.. The kids and I are doing this.. It's fun.. and a learning experience..

We saw all kinds of birds. We don't know that we identified them correctly, but we looked at the photos and got as close as we could.

It looks like rain today. Our dryer and washer is on the blink, so we had the repairman out this morning. He will get the parts on Monday... In the meantime, we'll just handle it...lol

I'm feeling a lot better. I still have remnants of a cold, but the stuffiness is not so bad.

Have a Wonderful weekend!

Got any suggestions for a simple supper?

Bunches of hugs!

I love ALL birds but cardinals are one of my favorites behind only eagles and orioles. I should actually check this out!
I am glad to hear you are feeling a lot better. This seems to have been a tough winter for colds and flu. ~ jb///

Good Morning Stephanie,
Sorry I'm late for the Saturday visit, but my DH was home and we spend our time together while he is at home. I have never heard of the Great Backyard Bird Hunt before. I'll have to check out the website. We don't have any trees here in our backyard where we moved to. I know this is Sunday, but how about sandwiches for Sunday dinner? Quick and easy and everyone can fix their own. I've done that many of times when I felt bad. I do hope you get to feeling better soon. Take care my friend and have a great day. May God Bless You and Yours.

Love & Hugs,
Karen H.

Here's one of my favorite recipes. It's quick and delish! You might want to double this.

Spaghetti and Sauce

8 oz. spaghetti cooked according to directions on package.
3 tbsp oil
1/2 onion, chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
6 large mushrooms, thinly sliced
1/2 bell pepper, diced
1 cup peeled tomatoes
1 tbsp tomato paste
4 oz (1/2 cup) red or white wine (we use white zinfandel, tastes great!)
4 oz (1/2 cup) chicken broth
pinch of Basil
pinch of chili pepper
salt & pepper
1 cup of green olives, chopped
4 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
chopped parsley (optional)

In a large fry pan heat oil and saute onion, garlic, mushrooms and pepper until light brown. Add other ingredients except cheese & parsley, and simmer 12 to 15 minutes. Drain pasta, toss with sauce, cheese & parsley, and serve!

Hi Stephanie,

Oh, I have tons of birds, since I have several feeders up. I will go check out the details. Hmmm, I saw 11 wild turkeys just before dark, and took their picture. Wonder if they are in the count? Probably not.

I'm glad you feel better. I've been somewhat down, but it will pass in time. Thank you for the nice words you left.

How about scrambled eggs and toast and some nice fruit, like grapes, with it, for a quick supper? Fast, easy and yummy.

Hugs,

Renie

Hi Mississippi Songbird,
That's so wonderful. To do bird watching is really an exciting experience especially if you are doing it with your kids. Your place must be closer to nature to have those birds come to the vicinity of your house. I don't know much about cooking but I'm sure you can get a fabulous recipe from your momma's cookbook. I'm just fascinated by the variety of recipes there. Thanks for the post. God bless you and your family always.

my microwave gave up the ghost on Friday... it makes noise.. the turntable goes around...just not heating anything up. No point in fixing it... they are so cheap nowadays I bet it would cost more to try to repair one. So..we spent Saturday looking for a new one to fit in the special area that we built when we made our cupboards... sigh..microwave ovens are no longer the same sizes and shapes they used to be. got one home that we figured would fit and lo and behold.. there is still another area in the back that sticks out yet another whole inch...unaccounted for in the measuring. Needless to say... poor Mr. B... had a fit. We are using it on my counter for now..... I kind of like it there..lower is actually better for me.

Glad you're feeling better. I used to live on a farm with a stream and big woods. I would sit by the window just to watch the birds there. I loved the little golden finches and cardinals but my favorites were the woodpeckers. I love walking in the woods and hearing the echo of their knocking on a tree.

I LOVE this idea, and I love that picture!!

We have a ton of birds in our backyard, but the cardinals and the bluebirds are my faves!!

I wonder if Alex prowling around the yard will scare off any birds.
